I can think of a few things more scary or unknown than coping with the unexpected. In life there is nothing as constant as change - whether good or bad - change occurs and we grieve. Our lives have many layers, which unfold in the most unexpected ways and can happen at any time to any of us or someone we care about.
.
Everything doesn't have to be right with the world, for us to experience feeling joy. We can not change what happened, we cannot change what we did or what was done to us, or what we lost. But we can celebrate how we live today. The painter Vincent VanGogh stated, "Great things are done by a series of small things brought together."
The small things we do today will impact our tomorrow...let's get started...
Courage - When we first experience a loss, the fog, the instinct to just survive is all we can do to get through the day. Then, there are unexpected moments in our grief when we consciously can make a decision, a decision possibly at that moment, to try to make changes in how we grieve. At this moment, we may reach out for reassurance, "Are we doing this right?" These changes are fueled by courage, to walk along beside our grief, hoping for just that moment, that it will not consume us so that we may remain open to experience grief in our own way.
Grace - There will always be moments we wish we could take back or do-over, but if we could, what we might see from our past, in those moments may resemble something that felt safe and familiar, but going back, knowing what we know, we may feel alone and/or scared, for what will happen next, as it is no longer unexpected. Consider - by permitting ourselves to move forward with appreciation and perspective, wouldn't we be honoring the unknown of tomorrow, by living present for today? Can we for today, explore and be open to new endings - one directed by His will and not our own? Is it more about finding balance - one of holding on and/or letting go?
